Timms Solicitors Sign Up to The Breakfast Club

Following the successful launch of the Breakfast Club at a Marketing Derby Bondholder event in October, Timms Solicitors have agreed to sponsor The Bemrose School’s club for the whole of the 2017/18 academic year.

The scheme, which provides free breakfast’s to children across Derby, is funded through local business and has been expanded to give more schools in the city an opportunity to take part after the success of a pilot run last year. Initially the scheme was rolled out at four selected schools in an attempt to improve children’s behaviour, attendance and overall educational attainment, recognising the importance of breakfast in order to start the day effectively.

The overall findings showed that the clubs were well received and attended by a growing number of pupils. Findings also showed that attending breakfast clubs generally boosted morale before the school day started and as a result of this a decision was made to offer the scheme to all schools across Derby.

Part of the strategy to widen the scheme involves attracting businesses across the city to get involved and help funding places for children at a cost of just £15 per child per year.

The firm of solicitors, based at St Michaels, Queen Street, attended the Bondholder launch in October and was moved to sign up and have agreed to fund a whole school for the year. The Bemrose School was one of the pilot schools and now has an average of around 40 each day.

The Breakfast Club is a collaborative project between Derby City Council, leading City entrepreneur Kavita Oberoi OBE , Aaron Thalman, Mike and Dana Copestake, Derby County Football Community Trust and HIS Church.
