Wills & Probate

Our friendly and knowledgeable Wills and Probate team have over 70 years combined experience guiding and advising clients on Wills, Probate, Estate Administration, Intestacy, Deeds of Variation, Care of the Elderly, Lasting Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection/Deputyship Orders and Trusts.

With four offices in Burton Upon Trent, Derby, Swadlincote and Ashby de la Zouch, we consistently provide an excellent service in every area of expertise and our client feedback reflects this. We can also organise home or hospital visits too if getting into the office is difficult.

Our whole team have been trained to support clients who are living with dementia and we understand the challenges that those clients and their families face. We often host Dementia Friends Information Sessions which aim to give people a better understanding of Dementia and the small things they can do that could make a difference to their loved ones life.

In addition, we have members of our team that are Fully Accredited Members of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers. We also have full members of STEP.

We also won ‘Midlands Solicitor Firm Of The Year’ at the British Wills & Probate Awards in 2022.

Individually Tailored

We tailor our work to meet your individual requirements and have a professional, yet approachable, team of qualified Solicitors and Legal Executives and an experienced team of support staff.

Each year we draft thousands of Wills, giving clients peace of mind that their affairs are in order when they pass away. We use our knowledge and skills to prepare bespoke Wills that reflect each individual client’s wishes and we also offer advice on ways to protect assets against the effects of long-term care fees and second and subsequent marriages.

We also recommend that our clients instruct us to prepare Powers of Attorney for them so that a representative can be appointed to make decisions for them in relation to property and finances and health and welfare in the event that they become unable to make decisions themselves. The need for a Power of Attorney has become particularly apparent following the pandemic during which many vulnerable clients were unable to carry out their day to day tasks.

For those who have left it too late to make a Power of Attorney, our team are able to assist with a Court of Protection application for a Deputyship Order. This can often be a long and difficult process, but we are on hand to provide support each step of the way.

Our team are particularly supportive following the death of a loved one and are on hand to offer practical yet sympathetic advice. We can assist with as much or as little of the estate administration process as is required and are experienced in dealing with the various complexities which can often arise.

You’ll find everyone in our team shares Timms passion for providing outstanding levels of client care in a warm, friendly and approachable manner and are always on hand to answer any questions you may have.

  • Having met Charlotte, at the Dementia Friends session at Ashby Library, I can assure you that her interaction with my Mother in Law was excellent. For anyone dealing with these difficult issues around power of attorney and Wills, she definitely practices what she preaches. Thank you very much Charlotte for being so patient, kind and considerate.
  • Keith Baldock-Grimes was extremely helpful in all aspects regarding the Will of my late Mother. His kindness and understanding during this awful time has been a blessing.
  • I would just like to say that Sara Hilliard has been lovely to work with. She first came in to our lives when she visited my husband and I at home for us to make new Wills. My husband was very ill at the time. Since he has dies, I have been able to see her several times at her office and she has always been bubbly and very kind and pleasant to me.
