The Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, has today announced a further extension to the furlough scheme.

The Scheme is to be extended for an extra month, until the end of April 2021.

Mr Sunak announced that the government will continue to pay 80% of wages for hours not worked, with a cap of £2,500 per month, until the end of the Scheme.

This initiative will be welcomed by businesses as the government’s contribution to wages was due to be reviewed in January 2021.

Once again, employers will only be required to pay wages for hours worked along with National Insurance and pension contributions.

The eligibility criteria for the Scheme remain unchanged.
