Coming Soon…… Resolution ‘Good Divorce Week’

At the end of this month and at beginning of December, Resolution – the organisation for family justice professionals that promotes working together to minimise conflict- will hold its annual “Good Divorce Week”.

After the events of this year and last, with increases in enquiries when the lockdown arrangements were eased and with “no-fault” divorce set to become Law in April next year, Good Divorce Week comes again at the right moment.

However, whatever the time of year, there are a number of ways that you can make separation and divorce easier. Here are a few examples:

  1. Consult an experienced family lawyer as early as you can to consider all of the options available to you and before you make decisions that will affect your future
  2. Be prepared! Start to think about your and your family’s resources and obligations and begin to collect information about your financial circumstances and future needs and think about the practical arrangements that will need to be made for your children to make sure that their lives are disrupted as little as possible.
  3. Think about other ways to resolve disputes or potential disputes, such as family mediation or collaborative law, rather than going straight to Court. These are often less expensive and are much quicker.
  4. If emotions are raw, consider counselling or family therapy to try to separate out issues that whilst important may cloud your judgement and prolong difficulties and make things more expensive.

We will be sharing information from Resolution later this month and in December so please look out for that in our blogs and social media!
