Look after you; so you can look after them…
There are many reasons why a child may be taken into care. The most common reasons are alcohol and substance abuse, domestic abuse, mental health issues and learning disabilities. It is therefore important that as a parent, you are able to look after yourself in order to provide the best care for your child.
The consequences of a child being taken into care are always devastating for the parents, children and wider family. This is why it is important to ask for help when you need it. Seeking support could help to prevent care proceedings or demonstrate to the court that you are able to ask for help and support and maintain a preferable lifestyle.
Support programmes...
There are lots of support programmes which are available to the public. There are different programmes, services and core groups in different areas of the Midlands which you can attend for support. Your local GP or Social Worker (if your child is allocated one) should be your first point of call. They are able to refer you to a number of different programmes. They can discuss your concerns and worries with you and get you into treatment either at the practice or with a local service. If you are not comfortable with this, you can approach the local services yourself. Being proactive is important.
Below is a list of the common local services our clients are often referred to and have been a great help in this type of proceedings. The most important step to recovery is you accepting that you may need a little bit of help and support. What is important to remember is that you are not the first person in this position and you will most certainly not be the last.
