Having previously worked in construction, Nikola commenced her post-graduate diploma in law in 1997, and has nearly 20 years’ in-depth experience in commercial property. She has benefited from working within top flight teams including specialists in planning law, property litigation, finance, tax, construction, pensions and retail and has been involved in many high value transactions for household name clients.

Nikola has a particular interest and expertise in site acquisition for residential development, having acquired sites for major national players as well as local builders. She is also skilled in all aspects of commercial lease work, from high street offices for private company directors’ pension funds to acquiring multi-million pound investment portfolios for institutional clients.

She has a real flair for understanding clients commercial concerns quickly and has a common sense approach and a ‘can do’ attitude.

Nikola joined Timms in September 2018 to head up our Commercial Property department. She is keen to develop, improve and expand the team and is passionate about bringing great quality, affordable advice to our local business communities.

Renata qualified as a Solicitor in 2002 and joined Timms in June 2016, having spent the last 5 years working at the University of Derby in an in-house role.

Renata has extensive experience in all areas of Civil Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Employment Law including Contract Disputes, Debt Recovery, Professional Negligence, Property Dispute Resolution, Leases and Licences for Landlords and Tenants, Contentious Probate and Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR). She has a vast understanding and experience drafting and negotiating Commercial Contacts including construction contracts.

Renata has significant experience in dealing with personal injury claims and has had great success in pursuing claims arising from road traffic accidents, accidents at work and accidents which have occurred in public places and also has experience in pursuing claims against the CICA. She has experience in dealing with high value personal injury claims and prides herself on offering practical advice and delivering the best possible outcome for the clients.

Renata is a friendly, knowledgeable advocate who is able to offer specialist advice to both individuals and companies.

Matt is a Solicitor in our Commercial Property department.

Principally based in our Ashby and Derby offices, he qualified in 2012 and joined the firm in 2015, having previously worked in Leicester and Northampton.

Matt has wide experience of all aspects of commercial property; including freehold and leasehold acquisitions and disposals, commercial developments, property finance and pension related matters - acting for both seller and buyer and landlord and tenant. He also has experience in dealing with conditional contracts, options and overage arrangements and all landlord and tenant transactions including lease renewals, surrenders, assignments, sublets and licences.

While Matt’s focus is on commercial property he also has considerable experience in residential conveyancing.

Matt joined Timms part-time in February 2018 to assist with the firm’s GDPR project. Matt then joined the firm full time in October 2018 handling post-completion for the Residential Conveyancing team. In May 2019 Matt was promoted to the role of Paralegal in the Commercial Property department in our Derby office.

Matt originally studied Theology at the University of Nottingham before finding his passion in the Law. Matt was awarded a commendation in the Law Conversion Course at Nottingham Law School in 2017, and in July 2019 completed the Legal Practice Course.

Matt is committed to providing an excellent level of service to the firm’s expanding base of Commercial Clients.

Jo has over 16 years experience in Private Client work and is also a Fully Accredited Member of Solicitors for the Elderly and a Dementia Friends Champion.

Jo particularly enjoys dealing with the administration of estates where there has been a breakdown in family relations and is passionate about client care.

She enjoys leading the team of 12 across the firm’s four offices and actively takes part in business development and marketing activities.

Sara has been at Timms for over 30 years and is one of the longest serving members of staff.

Sara commenced her working life at the CAB on a voluntary basis, before moving to work at a Derby firm of solicitors as a legal secretary and then finally joining Timms, initially as a legal secretary.

Whilst working as a secretary, Sara undertook the ILEX qualification via a correspondence course and qualified as a Member of the Institute of Legal Executives in June 1996, leading to admission as a Fellow of the Institute in June 1998. Sara practiced in other areas of law before settling in the Non Contentious, Wills & Probate department in 2000, where she finally found her niche and very much enjoys this area of work.

Keith joined the Probate Department at Timms in 2003. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1999 having spent 10 years in the NHS as a Registered Nurse specialising in Coronary Care and Intensive Care. He completed a full time law degree and Legal Practice Course whilst working in the NHS and commenced a training contract with Timms in 1997.

Since qualifying Keith has worked for a large City firm specialising in medical defence, inquests, consent matters and other medico-legal issues. He returned to Timms in 2003 when the opportunity to work locally offered more time to spend with his young family.

Keith has now worked in Probate at Timms for many years and although he enjoys working with clients of all ages he finds care of the elderly work particularly satisfying especially when capacity issues are involved.

Jessica is a Trainee Solicitor currently working in her penultimate ‘seat’ in the Wills and Probate Department.

Jessica began working for Timms as a Paralegal in the Care team within the Family Department in April 2017 and has been studying alongside working at Timms. In July 2017, she was awarded a commendation in the law conversion course at Nottingham Law School. In July 2019 Jessica gained a distinction in her Legal Practice Course.

In December 2018, Jessica began her training contract in the Private Family team. She currently assists other fee-earners in the Wills and Probate Department.

After studying hard, she first qualified as a legal executive then as a solicitor. Alicia studied at De Montfort University in Leicester.

Alicia lives locally in the Swadlincote area with her young daughter, husband and 2 dogs.

Fiona is the Managing Partner of Timms and splits her time between this role and working in the Family team. She is a member of the Children Panel and also an Accredited Specialist in the organisation ‘Resolution’ for family lawyers.

Fiona enjoys dealing with her own advocacy and undertaking more complex financial cases. She likes to deal with a blend of work in her case load involving divorce, financial cases, injunctions, private law children matters and childcare.

Fiona has also trained as a Collaborative Lawyer bringing a new approach to resolution of disputes when families break down.

In her spare time, Fiona enjoys walking and taking on new challenges, the latest being her abseil off the top of Derby Cathedral to raise funds for Rainbows Children's Hospice.

In her spare time Tessa enjoys travelling and hill walking and all things with a craft twist. She is a volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust which helps elderly and terminally ill people maintain their beloved pets at home by offering a regular dog walking service - something she and her husband really enjoy.

Jo has been at Timms for over 15 years, having qualified as a solicitor at our Swadlincote Office in 1993. From 2001 she worked for a commercially minded Tamworth firm and was pleased to re-join Timms in the Family Team in April 2010.

Jo is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and acts for parents, children and others in Local Authority care cases, special guardianship proceedings and adoption. She is highly skilled in dealing sensitively with parents with mental health issues or learning difficulties and with young parents. She is experienced in advising carers and extended family in respect of special guardianship.

Jo lives locally with her family. She is involved in the school, on the PTA and as a governor. Her interests include local politics and she is an honorary alderman of East Staffordshire.

Eleanor joined Timms Childcare Team as a Solicitor in April 2019 and is based at our Burton office. She has practised childcare law for the majority of her legal career to date within Derbyshire but has also gained experience in Court of Protection matters.

Eleanor currently represents parents and those with parental responsibility whose children are the subject of care proceedings. She also undertakes pre-proceedings work within the Public Law Outline (PLO) process and will represent and advise clients at PLO meetings across both Staffordshire and Derbyshire.

Lisa joined Timms in February 2016 and has over 14 years experience in Residential Conveyancing.

After graduating with a Honours degree in Law from Lancaster University in 1997, Lisa worked full time whilst completing a legal practice course by open learning, qualifying as a Solicitor in 2004. Lisa became a Partner in March 2018.

Lisa deals with all aspects of residential conveyancing including leasehold and freehold sales and purchases, complex property transactions and also small/ medium developments having acted for a number of small developers.

As Head of Residential Property, Lisa manages the team across all four offices. She is currently based in Derby but is happy to see clients at any of the four Timms offices.

Originally dealing with quotes and new business, Katie has progressed during her time at Timms and now handles her own caseload in the Swadlincote office. She has passed all the necessary exams and was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives in August 2018.

Karen joined Timms in 2008 after working within the retail sector of HR for many years, and has a wide skill base and genuine hands on experience of working with others.

Karen started her working life training and qualifying as a nurse, working in both the public and private sectors which included working in Iran, which was stopped abruptly by the revolution in 1978. She also qualified as an Occupational Health Nurse and councillor all of which can come in very useful within the generalist scope of HR.

Karen says HR is always different, it’s rewarding and challenging, understanding and working along side the team is what makes Timms the firm it is. We are renowned for our professionalism, friendliness and working together.

In her spare time Karen loves spending time with her family and friends, enjoys a good book and tries to attend the gym a few times a week. In her moments of madness has completed an abseil down the QMC and zip wired across the river Trent, all in the name of charity.

With many years hands on and management experience in marketing strategy and marketing communications, she is a stickler for detail and loves to work with branding.

Responsible for creating and implementing the firms marketing strategy, event management, business development, marketing communications, website management and social media marketing, networking and statistical analysis, Sharon supports all members of the Timms team.

Always one to rise to a challenge, outside work Sharon is often found training for her next event whether that be running, cycling, swimming or more recently she has developed a love of triathlons!

Ali joined Timms in early 2016 having graduated with a BA Hons in Accounting and spending 6 years at a reputable firm as Head of Finance.

Having an interest at a very early age with IT, Ali further developed his skills whilst working in the legal sector and brought that experience to Timms. Now the Systems Manager, he heads Finance and IT and is also a member of The Institute of Legal Finance and Management (ILFM)

Ali’s great passion is sport, especially football and Manchester United, he is also a follower of his home town Stoke City. A keen traveller and an interest in culture, he has visited many countries all over the world. In his spare time Ali attends the gym and enjoys watching various TV shows.
