Dog Bite & Attack Claims Explained
If you have been attacked and/or bitten by a dog, you may be able to claim compensation against the owner if it can be proven that they have been negligent.
By law, an owner has responsibility to control their dog and keep others safe from harm by preventing the dog from injuring them.
Dog Bite & Attack Claims
This is particularly important when the owner already knows their dog can be aggressive and there have been previous incidents of their dog displaying such behaviour. In this instance, the owner would be found to be negligent if they were aware that the dog attack could happen, and they failed to take adequate steps to prevent the attack from happening.
The claim is usually made against the insurance company providing cover for the dog, usually pet insurance and sometimes home insurance. If there is no insurance in place, then it is possible to claim against an individual if they have the means to pay you compensation.
You may be able to claim against your employer if the attack occurred whilst you were at work or carrying out work duties. You may also be able to claim under the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme if there is an ongoing criminal investigation in relation to the attack.
