World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024

On 28 April every year, the International Labour Organisation continues to promote safe working practices for ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2024’.

Health and safety at work is a basic workplace right and all workers should be protected from illness, injuries and disease resulting from their occupation.

Whilst the UK has one of the best health and safety records in the world, there is much more that can be done to keep people safe at work.

Unfortunately, there are still employers out there who do not take adequate health and safety precautions to keep their employees safe by exposing them to unsafe premises, inadequate working equipment, inadequate personal protective equipment, incompetent fellow employees, and other unsafe working procedures and processes.

All these failures can lead to employees suffering injury and even face risk to life whilst at work.

Employers must always remain vigilant and ensure they identify and assess all potential workplace hazards, including physical, chemical, biological, and psychological hazards. This means they should conduct regular inspections, assessments, and risk analysis. They should then implement any changes to their practices as necessary.

They must not only provide appropriate training and resources to ensure that employees are safe at all times, but they should also invest in continual training and education, and ensure that their employees feel empowered and protected by their policies.

If you believe your employer has exposed you to unsafe practices at work causing you to suffer injury you may be able to make a claim for compensation. If you would like to speak to someone about whether you have a claim for personal injury, please contact our friendly and dedicated team on freephone 0800 011 6666 or email legal@timms-law.com.
