Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis Sufe Medical Negligence Claims

Slipped upper femoral epiphysis (SUFE) medical negligence claims often arise because this hip condition presents with pain in the knee but only the knee rather than the hip is examined. Careful examination will usually reveal abnormalities such as painful or limited movement of the hip which may be accompanied by external rotation or shortening of the affected limb. Plain x-rays are usually diagnostic, particularly the so called “frog’s leg view”.

The condition arises because the capital epiphysis is subject to a good deal of stress as it supports half the weight of the body. Therefore, under certain circumstances , even without trauma , slippage of the epiphysis can occur.

Children’s medical negligence claims can still be brought with legal aid ( although the government is legislating to remove this ) and they are normally financially eligible, as they are assessed on their own finances rather than on their parents’ finances.
