Wills & Probate
With four offices in Burton Upon Trent, Derby, Swadlincote and Ashby de la Zouch, we aim to provide an excellent service in every area of expertise. We can also organise home visits too if getting into the office is difficult.
Five members of our team are trained as Dementia Champions and our support staff are all Dementia Friends. This means that the team have been trained to supprt clients who are living with dementia. We regularly host Dementia Friends Information Sessions which aim to give people an understanding of Dementia and the small things they can do that could make a difference.
We tailor our work to meet your individual requirements and have a professional, yet approachable, team of qualified Solicitors and Legal Executives with an experienced team of support staff.
Each year we draft hundreds of Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney, giving our clients peace of mind that their affairs are in order. We also assist with Court of Protection applications where a family member or friend has lost capacity and someone wishes to be appointed as their ‘deputy’ in respect of property and financial decisions. If someone has lost capacity and they do not have any suitable family members or friends who could be appointed then the partners at Timms can make the application for deputyship instead.
Perhaps the largest part of our work is assisting clients following the death of a loved one. We can be involved in as much or as little of the process as is required. Some clients simply want us to obtain the Grant of Representation (commonly known as Probate) for them which we can do for a fixed fee, so that they can deal with the administration of the estate themselves. Other clients prefer us to deal with the whole estate from start to finish – they simply bring in a bag of paperwork and then receive a cheque when the administration of the estate has been completed. Our fees can either be charged on an hourly charging rate or as a fixed fee (see below for further details regarding our fees).
Whatever your legal requirement, here at Timms we are happy to help and we are often able to provide a free initial appointment to discuss your needs. For further information please contact our Wills and Probate team.
Our prices for Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney are competitive and we do not charge for storage.
We also participate in several Charity Will schemes, through which many of our clients are able to make a ‘simple’ Will, free of charge or at a reduced rate. These charities include Cancer Research UK, National Free Will Network, Remember a Charity, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and Treetops.
For further information regarding the schemes please speak with a member of our Wills & Probate team.

Results that speak for themselves
Having met Charlotte, at the Dementia Friends session at Ashby Library, I can assure you that her interaction with my Mother in Law was excellent. For anyone dealing with these difficult issues around power of attorney and Wills, she definitely practices what she preaches. Thank you very much Charlotte for being so patient, kind and considerate.
Keith Baldock-Grimes was extremely helpful in all aspects regarding the Will of my late Mother. His kindness and understanding during this awful time has been a blessing.
I would just like to say that Sara Hilliard has been lovely to work with. She first came in to our lives when she visited my husband and I at home for us to make new Wills. My husband was very ill at the time. Since he has dies, I have been able to see her several times at her office and she has always been bubbly and very kind and pleasant to me.
I found the service provided by Laura Clare to be absolutely professional, caring and expertly delivered. She was always polite, attentive and understanding, in what was at times, a very frustrating case. We will certainly recommend her to others and would definitely ask for her again for any of our business.
