As many people may have noticed, Burton was one of 45 towns, out of 101 that bid, to be awarded significant funding from the Governments Town’s Fund.

The funding varies from town to town with Southport, for example, receiving £37.5m though Burton has been granted a very healthy £22.8m.

The Burton Town Deal board has responsibility for allocating the funding following the successful submission of the Town Investment Plan. There were 11 separate projects, known as “interventions”, that were put out to public consultation and following feedback from the general public eight interventions have been approved for Town Deal funding.

The primary purpose of the interventions is to attract visitors to the town which will help stimulate new businesses and increase footfall for existing businesses. Some of the interventions have been well received such as the three interventions aimed at improving the walking and cycling infrastructure of the town centre. Another popular intervention involves acquiring and redeveloping buildings on the High Street that are out of use. As a worker in the town centre I appreciate how the above projects would greatly improve and modernise the town centre and would be an appropriate use of the Town Deal funding.

A Proud Heritage

I moved to the Burton office in late 2020 and due to the continuing pandemic I haven’t had the opportunity to explore the town centre as yet. Whilst being an outsider to Burton, I am keenly aware of its proud heritage as the brewing capital of the country (if not the world) and producer of the ever divisive marmite. I look forward to restrictions being eased in the coming weeks so I can get out and learn more about Burton.

Strong Roots

Timms Solicitors were established in Swadlincote in 1892, though they have also had an office in Burton for many generations. Timms have been part of the Burton landscape for many years now and all the staff at Timms’s Burton office look forward to playing a part in a bright future for Burton. We will also be watching the improvements to the town centre with interest.
