Dementia Action Week – Being A Dementia Friend Ambassador

Dementia Friend Ambassador

This week, to raise awareness for Dementia Action Week, our team are discussing why they became a Dementia Friend Ambassador and how this has helped them in their role at Timms. Today we hear from Wills and Probate Solicitor, Megan Lovell…

 My Role At Timms

Hello, my name is Megan Lovell and I am a Wills and Probate Solicitor at Timms. I joined the firm in January 2022 and not long after I attended a Dementia Friends Information Session, enabling me to become a Dementia Friend Ambassador.

How Becoming A Dementia Friend Ambassador Has Helped Me In My Role…

It is really important for me to have awareness and a better understanding of Dementia and how it affects people differently. In my role it is important to note that just because someone has been diagnosed with dementia, it doesn’t mean they are incapable of instructing me to carry out legal work on their behalf. Legal professionals, working in Wills and probate are experienced in assessing capacity of clients and the assessment will take place at the initial appointment to ensure the client has the necessary mental capacity to provide instructions.

My Role As A Dementia Friend Ambassador

Part of my role as Dementia Friend Ambassador, is running information sessions on raising awareness of Dementia and to enable others to become a Dementia Friend. I also undertake fundraising and I particularly look forward to baking for Cupcake Day in June.
