Family Law Solicitor, Melissa Knight, Gains The Law Society’s Children Law Accreditation

Timms Family Law Solicitor, Melissa Knight, has recently been accredited to the Law Society’s Children Law Scheme (formerly the Children Panel).

Children Law Accredited solicitors are experts in dealing with difficult family issues such as contact, residence and other parental rights issues. The scheme is a recognised quality standard for practitioners representing children in children law proceedings.

The accreditation covers all types of children law work and is recognised by the Legal Aid Agency.

It’s a way for clients and professionals (such as guardians) to choose a qualified practitioner when a child needs representation.

Melissa comments: “I am delighted to achieve recognised status which will allow me to work directly with children, explore their competence and understand their wishes and feelings.

I regularly work alongside parents and family members from pre-proceedings through to Court proceedings and now look forward to working closer with both children and guardians”.

Melissa, based at our Burton on Trent office, joins Family Law colleagues Fiona Moffat, Dee Khunkhuna and Jo Taylor in achieving accreditation.

Melissa joined the Childcare team at Timms in May 2021. Prior to joining the team, Melissa was a Childcare solicitor at a local authority for over six years whereby she also completed her training contract. She knew from an early stage that she had a keen interest in Childcare Law and was dedicated to pursuing a career in this field.
