Your Will is possibly one of the most important documents you will ever prepare so it is important to make sure that it is correctly drafted so that your wishes are carried out following your death.
There are many companies out there offering Will drafting services, so it can be difficult to find the right one, but it is sensible to do your research before making an appointment.
There are lots of ‘Will Writing’ companies out there, who quite often charge very low fees for Wills and Lasting Powers of Attorney. However, often these Will Writers are not qualified Solicitors or Legal Executives and may not even have a legal background. We see time and time again the issues that arise from poorly drafted Wills and the distress that this can cause the family left behind.
Therefore, my advice would be to always approach a law firm regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (the ‘SRA’) with a view to having your Will drafted by a qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive.
To qualify as a Solicitor or Legal Executive we have to go through rigorous training, and we then have an ongoing obligation to stay up to date with legal developments and changes to practice. We are also heavily regulated by the SRA to ensure that our practices are good and that we’re up to date with our training.
