The Big Burton Carousel: Meeting Our Artist

Burton Arts Trail

Earlier in April, we were delighted to meet Rebecca Morledge, the talented artist who is currently painting the Timms carousel horse for the new Burton Arts Trail….

What Is The Big Burton Carousel?

Following on from the success of the Burton Swans in 2020, The Big Burton Carousel is a free art trail which will feature 30 recycled and reformed plastic sculptures of galloping carousel horses.

Launching in June 2022 the horses will be installed around the town centre to create a free and interactive ten-week sculpture trail for visitors to explore and enjoy before being auctioned off to raise money for mental health charity, Burton & District Mind.

The Big Burton Carousel is designed by Making Trails and East Staffordshire Borough Council and is supported by a team of artists, businesses and local organisations including Timms who have all choosen a design that adorns their sponsored horse on the trail.

Marketing Assistant, Charlotte Hill comments; ‘Back in February, we were able to join other sponsors to visit the Brewhouse Art Centre to view the potential designs, all created by local artists. We then chose our favourite, which would be later painted onto our carousel sculpture’.

Meeting Our Artist…

Charlotte continued ‘During April, we had the pleasure of meeting Rebecca Morledge, the talented artist who is currently painting our carousel horse. Rebecca had almost finished the painting after spending twenty four hours over the course of four days painting it when we caught up with her. It was great to see the fabulous work she had done so far, and we can’t wait to see and share the finished result.’

The Big Burton Carousel launches in June 2022, further information can be found on their website here.
