Solicitors For The Elderly (SFE) – What Does It Mean?

Solicitors for the Elderly

‘Solicitors for the Elderly’…. We talk about them often but who are they and what do they do?…..

I have recently passed my first exam to be an accredited member of the Solicitors for the Elderly. Looking at the recent achievement I find myself wondering will anyone actually know what Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) is and will it make a difference to my clients?

Who Are Solicitors For The Elderly?

Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) is a national association of specialist lawyers who have particular expertise in advising older and vulnerable clients.

All SFE Full Accredited Members are fully qualified and regulated lawyers with a minimum of three years’ experience in advising older and vulnerable clients.

Why Should I Use A Specialist SFE Lawyer?

SFE lawyers are specifically trained to be able to look after the interests of older and vulnerable clients. Not only do SFE Lawyers have specialist legal knowledge, they also provide a level of client care specifically aimed at making sure the older client is put at ease when dealing with complex legal issues and that they receive holistic legal advice in a way that is understandable and appropriate to their needs and in the client’s best interests.

What Advice Can An SFE Lawyer Provide?

SFE members can advise on the preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Court of Protection matters, Paying for Care, Probate, Tax Planning, Trusts, Living Wills and Advance Decisions.

Members have an in-depth knowledge of these areas and can provide support and advice to ensure that the older client has in place everything they may require to make life easier for themselves and their loved ones moving forward.

Will My SFE Membership Make A Difference To My Clients?

I’d hope so!

My aim, as always, is to ensure that clients coming to see me in connection with any of the specialist areas above will leave our meetings feeling that I understand their needs, and will feel confident and more at ease in facing what can often be a very daunting prospect, planning for the future.
