A Little Bit About Me
My name is Emily Facer and I’m a Trainee Solicitor at Timms Solicitors. I will have been with Timms for almost three years.
I graduated from the University of Derby with my Law degree, LPC and Masters in Law.
I started my Timms journey in April 2022 in the conveyancing team. I initially began working as a new business co-ordinator dealing with new enquiries and then moved on to work more closely with the conveyancers in dealing with matters.
I started my Training Contract with Timms in March 2024 and I am currently completing my second seat in our Wills and Probate Team in Swadlincote.
Timms Trainee Solicitor Programme
The application process at Timms for the Trainee Solicitor programme really allows you the opportunity to showcase your skills and knowledge.
The process involved three stages which included submitting a CV and cover letter, a presentation and a group assessment afternoon. During the process, you are given the opportunity to present your education, work experience, knowledge, work ethic and your personality.
The interview process was enjoyable and I learnt a lot during this time. It really made you think about how you approach tasks and helped develop my confidence.
The Most Challenging Aspect Of My Training
I have found the most challenging aspect of my training so far would be getting used to a new area of law which I have never practised before. Whilst it is challenging, it is also really exciting to be trying something new!
When changing the practice area, I learnt that there are various different ways of drafting and case management as well as procedure being very different. With this said, I am really keen to learn and develop and the support of the team has been fantastic in my progress.
What Have I Learnt So Far
I have learnt a lot of key skills including not only expansion in my legal knowledge but also my practical skills such as drafting, organisation and case management.
What Have I Enjoyed So Far
I feel extremely privileged to work with the team at Timms and to be expanding my knowledge every day. I have really enjoyed getting a taste for different areas of law, and the different processes involved within each area.
I am looking forward to continuing my Trainee journey and seeing what the future holds!
