In her latest blog, Anna Bradley explains ‘Solicitors For The Elderly’ and the benefits of choosing an accredited member….

Who Are Solicitors For The Elderly?

Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) is a national association of independent lawyers who specialise in older and vulnerable client law and care, and were set up in 1996.  SFE has over 1,600 members.

Who Are Members Of SFE?

All SFE Full Accredited Members are fully qualified and insured Solicitors, Barristers or Chartered Legal Executives with a minimum of three years’ experience in advising older and vulnerable clients.

Members must spend at least 50% of their time working with older and vulnerable clients. They must have passed both the Older Client Care in Practice Award and the Older Client Law in Practice Award.

Timms Solicitors have three experienced lawyers who are fully accredited SFE members.  SFE offer members continuing professional development through updates on law and tailored guidance for helping vulnerable and older clients.

SFE members will consider the physical and mental difficulties which may affect older and vulnerable clients, and the health and social challenges they can also deal with on a day to day basis.

SFE members can advise on a range of areas, including the following:

  • Making a Will
  • Powers of Attorney
  • Living Wills / Advance Decisions
  • Tax Planning
  • Asset Preservation
  • Trusts
  • Probate
  • Paying for Care
  • NHS Continuing Care Funding
  • Court of Protection
  • Elder Abuse

Timms Solicitors – The Benefits Of Using A SFE Member

SFE members are specialised in advising older and vulnerable people, and their families and carers. Through years of practicing law, in the area of helping older and vulnerable clients, members have built up experience and knowledge.

SFE members have chosen to voluntary join the association, and undertaken additional specialist training, which is independently accredited. SFE members always try to tailor their advice to the individual and their needs and speak in plain English.

At Timms, we have a friendly and knowledgeable team.  I always aim to give my clients clear and tailor made advice in relation to their matter, whether making or updating their Will or wishing to prepare for the future with a Lasting Power of Attorney document. our work to me your

We have three Fully Accredited Members of SFE within the Wills and Probate department and more working towards their exams.  I am hoping to become a member so that I can benefit from the being part of the SFE professional organisation, and the confidence clients can feel from using a specialist legal adviser.
